Background of Marine & Offshore FAST® Installations
The very first FAST® System installation was aboard the river towboat, M/V Missouri, in 1969. Subsequent prototypes were then installed aboard the M/V Herman Pott and the M/V Tom Talbert. The FAST® Systems were made available and first offered for sale in 1973. The process produces effluent of very high quality. An indication of the effluent quality to be obtained (without a clarifier) is that the early installations were all no-discharge recycle systems. The effluent was filtered, disinfected and reused over and over again to flush the toilets. This was because the prevailing regulations at the time were non-discharge. It was not until 1975 that US Coast Guard promulgated regulations permitting flow-through treatment.
