Sweet-P® Calcification-Prevention Tablets (CPT)
For decades, owners of oceanic vessels have struggled with the cost and labor associated with removing the calcium that builds up on the walls of pipes and plumbing fixtures.
Urinals on oceanic vessels are normally flushed with sea water that is saturated with calcium. Uric acid and other acids found in urine precipitate the calcium out as calcium carbonate. The calcium carbonate builds on the walls of the piping causing blockages.
In 1988, the U.S. Navy began testing products that might reduce their plumbing service costs. They eventually found a small, inexpensive solution...the calcification-prevention tablet.
In 1992 SCIENCO®/FAST® Systems, Inc. received their first contract to manufacture the calcification-prevention tablet. SCIENCO, working with the chemist at the Navy’s China Lake Facility, suggested several changes to the original tablet formulation. The changes where approved by China Lake resulting in a longer-lasting tablet and a product that was easier to produce. By 1994, every Navy ship, with the exception of submarines, were using CPTs.
CPTs are formulated using citric acid and other water-soluble, non-toxic ingredients. Consistent use of CPTs prevent the formation of calcium buildup in the sewage systems of marine vessels. Additionally, Sweet-P® CPTs can be used in commercial buildings for periodic removal of calcium buildup.

Usage Guidelines
Initial dosage (slow drain): Place one tablet in each urinal and flush several times until the tablet begins to dissolve. Repeat this every one to two days until each urinal drains freely.
Ongoing Maintenance: For one urinal, place one tablet per week. If multiple urinals are in service, add one tablet per week, but alternate between urinals. In a heavy use facility, add one tablet every three days into the urinals that get the most use, and one per week for the others.
FAQ
Question: Can the citric acid tablet be used in vacuum toilet systems?
Answer: Yes. The U.S. Navy conducted a (1) year study in a DD-963 Class Ship to determine
its effectiveness in a vacuum sanitary waste system. Results of the evaluation indicated the
C.P.T. tablet is effective in preventing scale build up in vacuum systems.
